The white lighthouse “Hezaki Lighthouse” shines against the contrast of the blue sky and sea. It is one of the five lighthouses that the shogunate agreed to build with the British envoy in preparation for the opening of the port of Hyogo in 1867 (Keio 3), and has been protecting maritime safety for more than 100 years since it was first lit in 1872 (Meiji 5).
