The wisteria at Oonakatomi Shrine is called Shogun Fuji (General Wisteria). It was donated to the shrine by Prince Kaneyoshi, the Seisei Shogun (General of the Western Expedition), as a thank you for praying for his recovery when he was injured at the Ohobaru Battle in 1359.

The wisteria tree boasts a history of approximately 660 years and was designated as a natural monument of Fukuoka Prefecture in 1970. The “Shogun Fuji Festival” is held every year from mid-April to the morning of May 5th, and the shrine grounds are bustling with many visitors.
