The “Kyushu Basho” is one of the Grand Sumo tournaments organized by the Japan Sumo Association. The Kyushu tour was promoted to the status of a Basho (tournament) for the first time in 1957. Since then, it has been held annually in the Kyushu region from mid-November to late November.
Since 1981, it has been held at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center in Fukuoka City. Many sumo stables stay in the city, and many wrestlers participate.
It is a major sporting event representing Kyushu, where you can see the powerful bouts of Grand Sumo and the heated battles of the wrestlers competing for prize money.
