The Mori Ōgai Sotokyo-machi Residence Site Monument was erected in 1977 (Showa 52) by the “Mori Ōgai Remains Preservation and Commemoration Society” in the rotary of the Kokura Station plaza, slightly away from his former residence in Kyomachi.
Although it was moved several times after that, with the redevelopment of the station plaza in 2016 (Heisei 28), the monument was moved to its current location at 154 Kyomachi 5-chome, the site of his former residence. (Quoted from the Mori Ōgai Sotokyo-machi Residence Site Monument)
