Kurume Centennial Park was created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of Kurume City. The park has a lawn area, an azalea garden, and is adjacent to the Chikugo River riverbed. This park is famous for the “Kurume Azalea Festival,” which is held every April and is considered one of Japan’s three major gardening festivals. Many azaleas, the representative flowers of Kurume, bloom in the park, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. Be sure to visit when you are in Kurume City.
