Ino Tadataka was a person who surveyed the entire country of Japan during the Edo period and created an accurate map of Japan based on actual measurements.

In Kyushu, despite being 64 years old, he conducted survey work twice.

His starting point was Tokiwa Bridge in Kokura Castle Town. This bridge is also the starting point of the five major roads of Kokura (Nagasaki Kaido, Karatsu Kaido, Nakatsu Kaido, Akizuki Kaido, and Moji Okan).

In September 2001, a monument was erected to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the start of Ino’s survey and to honor his achievements.
