The “Hinokuni Festival,” which started in 1978, is a well-loved local citizen’s festival full of regional color.

In the main event, the “Otemoyan So-Odori,” where a total of 5,000 dancers participate, people dance through the streets of Kumamoto City to Kumamoto’s representative folk song “Otemoyan” and the lively rhythm of “Samba Otemoyan.”

It is a summer tradition that even elementary school children can enjoy and is a festival where you can experience the local culture.
