“Mount Hiko” is a famous sacred mountain for Shugendo (Japanese mountain asceticism) in Japan, and there are related temples and lodgings in the mountains. Among them, seven designated gardens, all pond-style gardens, that are designated as National Scenic Spots remain.

The oldest garden, the “Former Kameishi-bo Garden,” is said to have been designed by Sesshu. It features a unique design with a shallow pond, large waterfall stones, pointed standing stones, and revetment stones.

You can enjoy the gardens while feeling the history of Mount Hiko.
