Suigo Yanagawa is the waterscape of Yanagawa City, the hometown of Hakushu Kitahara, a poet representing modern Japan. You can stroll through the scenery that Hakushu depicted in his poems, such as the moats of Yanagawa’s former castle town and the fishing village of Okihata.

Hakushu’s birthplace and the Namikura warehouse are also among the highlights. Hakushu described Suigo Yanagawa as a “quiet ruined city.” The scenery boasts the excellence of a waterscape, which became the source of Hakushu’s poetry, and it has been designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty.

The groves of trees within the grounds of shrines such as Mihashira Shrine and Suitengu Shrine also offer wonderful views. Suigo Yanagawa, which has deep connections to water and is renowned for its scenic beauty, is also known through Hakushu’s poems and songs.

By all means, please visit Suigo Yanagawa, Hakushu’s birthplace, and enjoy its beautiful scenery and peaceful moments.
