Ryugozan Senkoji Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple in Japan, known as the “Hydrangea Temple,” where approximately 7,000 hydrangea plants bloom in full glory.
This temple, built in 1192, was opened by Eisai Zenji, the founder of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. The temple has a bronze bell with an inscription from the Northern Court, memorial towers for Nagatsune Kusano, Eihei, Shigenaga, and Tadamasa Tanaka, as well as the location of the mausoleum and tomb of Prince Kaneyoshi, the Seisei Shogun (General of the Western Expedition), making it a famous and historically valuable temple.
Ryugozan Senkoji Temple is located along the mountain path at the northern foot of the Muno mountains, in a quiet place surrounded by the nature of the mountains. When you visit, you can see the beautiful hydrangeas.
