A winter tradition born from concern for the environment

“Yuakari” began in 2012 as part of bamboo thinning and regeneration activities to solve environmental problems caused by abandoned bamboo forests. Now, it is loved by many people as a winter tradition of Kurokawa Onsen.

Ball Lanterns:

  • Approximately 300 spherical lanterns called “ball lanterns” warmly illuminate the riverside and the hot spring town. Cylinder Lanterns:
  • Cylindrical lanterns about 2 meters high called “cylinder lanterns” create a fantastical atmosphere. Lighting Up of Kawabata-dori:
  • This year, “Kawabata-dori” from Marusuzu Bridge to Yamabiko Ryokan will be lit up.
